POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Engineer will be responsible for directing and coordinating capital projects for plant modifications/additions, as well as new equipment selection and installation.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain all plant layouts and blueprints – utilities, electrical and equipment.
  • Develops detailed cost estimates for capital projects.
  • Tracks and controls project costs by approving expenditures; administering contractor contracts, monitoring and controlling contractor productivity, optimizing and controlling project design elements and scope.
  • Maintains project planning and implementation files.
  • Prepares and presents reports to Management on project planning and progress.
  • Monitor cost performance and identify gaps.
  • Identify cost improvement opportunities on current and future activities.
  • Create and maintain plant layouts using AutoCAD.
  • Installation, troubleshooting and debugging of machinery.
  • Works with contractors to optimize cost and efficiency performance.
  • Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, recommending actions.
  • Proven experience managing projects in operating manufacturing facilities involving the installation of complex equipment, piping systems, electrical systems.
  • Document capital project issues, methods, time-tables and budgets.
  • Coordinate spending plan/activities on capital budget items.
  • Works in a hands-on, team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Must be flexible with work schedule, work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors Degree required, but not a must, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field preferred. 5-7 years of progressive project engineering experience in a processing/manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of: AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
  • Aseptic processing and packaging of low acid food products is preferred

 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Superior problem-solving skills for long term issue resolution.  This job requires a cycle of body movements which is moderate speed with several motions.  The physical effort this job requires is moderate effort in lifting and moving and significant effort in walking and standing. Approximate weight to be lifted: 25 to 50 lbs.

 

 

LEADERSHIP

This job requires general project supervision. Position must gain support and commitment other departments and plants within the organization.
